Kansas City 1927. La Roma di Luis Enrique (Italian Edition), by Diego Bianchi, Simone Conte

Stagione 2011-2012.

Atlantis Unmasked by Alyssa Day
By jjmachshev
Three and half stars for "Atlantis Unmasked" by Alyssa Day. If every series has a 'stumble', then for me this book is it. I didn't 'feel' the connection between the main characters and the writing felt choppy instead of the smooth flow I'm used to from this author. I didn't hate it by any means, but I was expecting much more.

Grace is a leader of the human rebellion against the vampires and their allies and has been ever since her brother was killed by a pack of vamps celebrating their 'coming out'. She uses the gift of perfect aim she received from the goddess Diana's blood passed through her family. She's closed herself off from everything but vengence and just wants to take out as many vamps as she can before she dies fighting. The warrior Alexios disturbs her. He's the only man who shakes her composure and makes her 'feel'. But he's an Alpha male all the way and Grace won't stand for anyone trying to protect her and her goddess may not either!

Alexios is scarred, physically and mentally. Tortured as a plaything by the goddess Anubis, her minions scarred his face with hellfire. He's drawn so powerfully to Grace, but fears opening himself up to the pain of love and loss. Now the Fae have appeared on the scene and that's never, ever, ever a good thing. Alexios has been tasked to work with Grace and steal the Vampire's Bane from the possession of the most powerful vampire yet.

I can't even write a smooth review for this one. It feels disjointed. I'll just blame it on the appearance of the Fae. Will that work? I'm guessing Day is expanding the scope of the plotline as there seemed to be a bit of 'empire building' present to include new characters, new allies, and possibly new enemies. I'm hoping that's the case and in any event, every series has a 'lag book' and this one's it for me so far.

Alexios is still yummy, but Grace never quite felt right to me. Toward the end, she changed quite a bit which made her better for Alexios but struck me as a kind of cheat. Ah well, maybe it's just me. I still intend to keep reading this series and the next book is "Atlantis Redeemed" sked to release in Feb 2010.

The Hunter and the Warrior...
By FoxxieGirlie719
Alexios was once a gorgeous, golden hunk along with his fellow warriors. That is, until the evil goddess Anubisa captured him (she really likes messing with Atlanteans). She and her blood pride mutilated him and burned him with their hellfire scarring not only his body, but also his soul. Even after his escape, he remains aloof and hides his scar under his hair.

Grace is a leader of one of the rebel factions that fight alongside Quinn's Resistance fighters. Grace has been fighting since her brother's murder at the hands of vampires several years ago. She herself is an elite warrior because she is a direct female descendent of Diana (the Goddess of the Hunt). Her aim is never off and much prefers her bow and a quiver of arrows as her weapon of choice and she can definitely hold her own alongside the scarred warrior that she is attracted to.

Alexios and Grace are thrown together to retrieve The Vampire's Bane, a yellow diamond with the power to destroy vamps from Poseidon's Trident that has the ability to control minds. Throw in some meddling from Fae royalty (always trouble with a capital T), goddess intervention, and an Atlantean warrior learning to trust and love again and you have a fantastic read. Definitely recommend reading these in order, that way sub characters, and storylines make a little more sense!

By far......
By Book Addict
First of all, this is by far my favorite cover art of all the published books so far. On the plus side, the author did change things up a little in that the naughty bits were not the same repetitive descriptions that they were in the previous three/five books. But on the down side, the para-normals are getting way too numerous to keep track off. There's the vampires, werewolves, witches, other shape shifters (panther, tiger, bear, raptor), empaths, gem singers, object readers, descendants of Diana (Goddess of the Hunt)....and I feel like I'm forgetting a couple (truth tellers, elves). Seriously, who can keep track with the way the series is spinning out of control? Less War Against Humanity, more search for the lost gems of Poseidon's Trident please and life on Atlantis! That's the only reason I'll keep reading the books.

In her desperation, she's forced to enlist the last person she'd ever want to spend time with—slacker Zak Duquette—to help find her brother before morning comes.

Gr 7 Up—When slacker and sci-fi enthusiast Zak Duquette meets type-A scholar Ana Watson, he is strangely attracted; unfortunately, Ana has no time for anything but academics, as her parents' demands for perfection will ensure. But the two are forced to work together when Zak is coerced by a teacher to join the quiz bowl team with Ana and her whiz-kid younger brother, Clayton. Unfortunately for Zak, the quiz bowl takes place on the same weekend as WashingCon—the sci-fi convention where Zak has had many amazing adventures every year. After Zak extols the glories of the fest, Clayton sneaks away to experience it for himself. In order to keep Clayton's disappearance from her overly controlling parents, Ana must team up with Zak and brave the gathering of geeks, zombies, Vikings, and aliens to find her brother before curfew. In alternating chapters, as they meet one obstacle after another, this seemingly incongruous couple slowly begins to open up and to appreciate each other's talents. While Zak's devil-may-care attitude may be a response to his father's death and his mother's rather hasty marriage to a man with whom he is still not comfortable, Ana feels pressured by her parents to make up for her sister's transgressions that caused her to be banished from their home years ago. Strong personalities, a cast of out-of-this-world characters, and a fast-paced manhunt in an imaginative setting make this an appealing title for tweens and teens. VERDICT A zany romantic comedy for pop culture geeks and "Con" enthusiasts.—MaryAnn Karre, West Middle School, Binghamton, NY

Review
“With perfect comic timing and outrageous twists, The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak will have you cheering for the underdog.” (Robin Constantine, author of The Promise of Amazing)

“A love letter to fanboys and fangirls everywhere. On the surface, the story is a lighthearted and entertaining romance, but serious undertones explore the fractured side of parent-child relationships and misfit characters desperate to find a tribe. A delightful romp for anyone still figuring out where they belong.” (Publishers Weekly)

“This well-paced novel is an excellent combination of self-discovery and adventure. Give this to fans of Eleanor and Park or Nick and Norah.” (Booklist)

“There is something very sweet and nerdy about the entire premise of the story, where the upside-down rules of cosplay and gaming conventions like Washingcon allow the outsiders to be heroes.” (Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA))

“Fans of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist will find con-tentment here.” (Kirkus)

“A zany romantic comedy for pop culture geeks and ‘Con’ enthusiasts.” (School Library Journal)

“A nerd-friendly adventure story with a gooey, sweet romance center.” (Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books)

From the Back Cover

The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak is Stonewall Book Award-winning author Brian Katcher's hilarious he said/she said romance about two teens discovering themselves on an out-of-this-world accidental first date.

It all begins when Ana Watson's brother, Clayton, ditches the quiz bowl semifinals to go to the Washingcon sci-fi convention on what should have been a normal, rsum-building high school trip.

If slacker Zak Duquette hadn't talked up the geek fan fest so much, maybe Clayton wouldn't have broken the rules or jeopardized Ana's last shot at freedom from her uptight parents.

Now, teaming up with Duquette is the only way for Ana to chase down Clayton in the sea of zombies, bikini-clad princesses, and Smurfs. After all, one does not simply walk into Washingcon.

But in spite of Zak's devil-may-care attitude, he may have more in common with Ana than she thinks. Ana and Zak certainly don't expect the long, crazy night, which begins as a nerdfighter manhunt, to transform into so much more. . . .

Another great book from a gifted writer
By John Rogers ClarkIV
Can uptight and laid back co-exist? Zak, AKA Duke, appears to be ultra-cool and unruffled on the outside, but he's really sad and a bit hurting on the inside. He's still missing his dad who died of cancer a few years ago and he's really uncomfortable around his stepfather, Roger, in part because of how fast he and Zak's mom got married after they met. Zak's really into role playing and all the affiliated stuff that comes with it. He's totally pumped because next weekend he'll be in his element at Washingcon, the highlight of his year. Ana is about as far personality-wise from Zak as one could get. She's ultra-serious, driven (in large part by her parents' rigid expectations to have a perfect daughter), is locked into a perpetually tight schedule and has a responsibility bump the size of Guatemala. She's stressing out about the quiz bowl competition next weekend. She feels full responsibility for the team's success, even to the point of having convinced her parents to let her precocious younger brother, Clayton, be on the team. Two completely different personalities and two completely different sets of weekend plans are about to be dumped into the same bowl of life and get thoroughly mixed together. A recipe for disaster on the surface, but much more fun and interesting underneath. When Mrs. Brinkham, the health teacher and adviser to the quiz bowl team, has Zak step into her office, his life is about to get a lot more interesting. She confronts him with the fact that he downloaded a Wikipedia article and copied it almost word for word when submitting it as his health paper. She gives him a choice: Be an alternate on the quiz team and rewrite the paper for a passing grade, or fail completely and have to take health over again in the summer. It's a tough choice for Zak. The Con is his one happy event now that Dad is gone, but he really wants to go to the community college next fall and not passing health will kill his chance to do so. He agrees to her terms. Ana is less than pleased with him as an alternate and becomes even more so when Clayton starts getting really interested in Zak's stories about previous Cons. She thaws a little when Zak saves the team from defeat in an early round, but when Clayton hops into a taxi later that evening to see what the Con is all about, she freaks completely. If her parents get wind of what her brother is up to, she's sure all the blame will fall on her head. When Zak agrees to help find her brother, they take off in another taxi and what happens over the next several hours is alternately scary and hilarious. Ana has no clue what she's about to encounter, nor does she have any idea how much popularity Zak has with the folks who go to Cons. The cast of characters Brian creates to populate the Con, the language, the events and the misadventures will be familiar to anyone who has attended one or more of these events. He gets it all right and, coupled with his ability to make both Zak and Ana appealing and ever more attracted to each other as the night progresses, makes this a great fun and feel-good read. There's nothing in the book that might deter tweens from reading it, so this is going to be a dandy addition to any library, public or school. I'd love to see it as a movie down the road.

Life-Changing Night at a Science Fiction Convention
By K. M. Martin
Zak and Ana tell this story is alternate chapters. Zak is a slacker in school; he's more interested in science fiction and computers than anything else. Ana is the always-busy, over-achiever whose on every committee and always looking to pad her transcript for college. Zak is interested in Ana but Ana has no time or interest in him. They get thrown together when Zak is in danger of failing Health but the teacher who is also the adviser of the Quiz Bowl team recruits him because she needs another team member for an up-coming tournament. Unfortunately, the Quiz Bowl tournament is the same weekend as the biggest science fiction convention in Washington State and Zak goes every year.

So, Zak finds himself in the van on the way to Quiz Bowl with Ana, her younger brother Clayton, and the other two team members. He regales them with tales of the science fiction convention happening only a few miles from the Quiz Bowl Competition. After their first round, which Zak helps them win, they have the evening off before the next round. Clayton decides to go the the convention leaving Ana and Zak to go after him and try to find him and bring him home before their adviser or Ana and Clayton's parents find out he is missing.

Most of the book happens at the convention which is filled with all sorts of wild adventure for both Zak and Ana. It brought back memories of the science fiction conventions I have attended filled with oddly dressed characters, geeks of all descriptions, movies, gaming tournaments, and even a vampire ball. This is a world where Zak fits in and Ana needs to depend on his expertise. They manage to stay one step behind Clayton while attracting a drug dealer and a number of people who would like to do either or both Zak and Ana harm.

I liked watching Zak and Ana learn more about each other and realize that the other had some valuable things to contribute. I liked the way both Ana and Zak changed after one very intense night at a science fiction convention.

Cute story!
By Rikke Lerche
I chose this book because I was in the mood for a light, and potentially fun read, and because I haven't read a book like this in ages.

It wasn't exactly all fun, but I did like it, and Ana did have some rather funny punchlines at times, but mostly it's a story about two teenagers, Zak & Ana. Both of them have issues, and stuff they're trying to make right, also they're both pretty funny, inner dialogue wise, without it becoming forced or annoying.

This is Zak's and Ana's story told over the duration of only a few days. It isn't just about what happens during those days, though. It's also the story about each of their lives ... Ana's especially.

It's about growing up, about realizing what matters, about recognizing patterns, making choices, and facing issues of grave importance. it's a fine portrait of teenage reality. It's obvious that the author cares about his characters, and as they are both equally important, and equally interesting their story makes for a fine read.

The story is told, taking turns, from Ana's POV and Zak's POV. Fortunately it's also continuous, so it's not like everything is told twice.

A cute little story, and with a lot more to it that one might think. It isn't the world's most exciting book, but I like it in that comfortingly homey way where, a book can some times make you smile and forget about plots, suspense and whatnot.

This isn't a genre I would normally choose or expect too much of, but for some reason I enjoyed this one enough to actually give it a 4 stars rating nonetheless. Compared to other books I've read in this genre, it's actually very engaging, and I enjoyed the message. In fact, I like it like I liked The Future of Us.

A Foundational book on the science of values
By A Customer
Milton Rokeach is probably one of the most respected and quoted authorities in the area of value studies. This text follows his privotal book, "The Nature of Human Values." In this text, Rokeach attempts to "go beyond the conceptualization and measurement of individual values to the conceptualization and measurement of supraindividual values...." His is one of the first works to apply solid (rather than rhetorical) logic to issues of values in organizations. This book covers many important areas including change and stability of American Values, discusses issues such as "Can Values be Manipulated?" and spends three chapters on Value Education. Rokeach is the editor for this text, and also a contributor for half-a-dozen of the articles in the book.

A Great Book for My Classroom readers.

A fantastic book. A bought copies for my high school freshmen reading class and the response to the book has been overwhelmingly positive. The style and word usage is good by the author with enough rigor to make my freshmen stretch their reading ability. I am very happy with the purchase.

Great book. A most read for anyone interested in learning/knowing about the misplaced trust that just because blacks can play sport, that somehow qualifies them to be social changers. Athletes generally and, black athletes in particular, have zero interest in social/racial issues, that is, until one of them is put in "their."

Emocionante y sencillamente delicioso
By Rafael Frias

Excelente libr
By JRamirez

Silent Steel: The Mysterious Death of the Nuclear Attack Sub USS Scorpion, by Stephen Johnson

Praise for Silent Steel

"The magnitude of the tragedy of the USS Scorpion is matched only by the depth of the mystery surrounding her loss. Stephen Johnson has done a remarkable job of shining new light on this dark moment in U.S. submarine history."
--Sherry Sontag, coauthor of Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage

"What happened to the USS Scorpion? The question has vexed submariners for almost four decades. Now, with meticulous research and incredible attention to detail, Stephen Johnson examines and dissects one of the most tragic and mysterious submarine accidents in U.S. Navy history."
--Douglas Waller, author of Big Red: Inside the Secret World of a Trident Nuclear Submarine

"Stephen Johnson has crafted a forensic masterpiece that leads the reader back through time to unravel the gnawing enigma of the tragic 1968 loss of the nuclear attack submarine USS Scorpion. Sifting through a maze of conflicting theories, he meticulously lays out a tale of undersea detectives searching for conclusive evidence to one of the most baffling mysteries of the cruel sea."
--Rear Admiral Thomas Evans, author, analyst specializing in submarine history and operations, and former officer on the Scorpion

"The manuscript arrived with yesterday's afternoon mail. I finished reading it by nightfall. It's that good! Thoroughly researched, impeccably documented, with an appealing and literate style, Silent Steel should become essential reading for submarine enthusiasts and for anyone else who enjoys an engaging and informative yarn."

From Publishers Weekly
Johnson painstakingly details the last 18 months of the Cold War–era fast-attack nuclear submarine U.S.S. Scorpion, which disappeared with all hands on May 22, 1968, in the mid-Atlantic. Commissioned in 1960, the Scorpion tested nuclear sub warfare tactics in exercises around the world until its final voyage following four months of duty with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. When the ship didn't emerge at its homeport of Norfolk, Va., on its scheduled arrival date of May 27, 1968, the navy launched its largest search in U.S. naval history and reported the ship and its 99 crewmen officially dead on June 5. Four months later, the navy located pieces of the ship's hull in more than 10,000 feet of water. Further investigations came to no definitive conclusion about what caused the demise of the Scorpion. Was it a Soviet attack? Did one of the Scorpion's torpedoes accidentally detonate? Did its hull crack due to poor maintenance? Did its main storage battery explode? Mining navy documents and first-person testimony, Johnson's deeply researched effort explores these and other possible explanations, but concludes that the ship's end will remain an enigma. (Jan.)

From Booklist
On February15, 1968, nuclear attack submarine USS Scorpion left Norfolk, Virginia. On May 22, 1968, the Scorpion, with 99 men aboard, was lost in the Atlantic. After 37 years, a court of inquiry, and three undersea investigations--the latter two headed by Dr. Robert Ballard, best known for his discovery of the Titanic--why the sub sank has not been determined. Johnson offers a very readable account of the very tragic mystery, complete with sketches of crew members and a well--delineated picture of the naval and submarine culture of that time. While he describes the evidence generated by all three investigations, the question of what caused the Scorpion to implode and smash with such force on the floor of the Atlantic is still a controversy. Review
"Silent Steel ably succeeds as a thriller, a tragedy, a mystery and a snapshot of history." (The Virginian-Pilot)

"Johnson exhaustively explores everything known about the vessel's final year-and-a-half of operation. An engrossing documentation of haunting, grisly what-ifs." (Kirkus Reviews)

Remembering the sailors and the ship.
By M. Chapman
USS Scorpion's sinking remains a controversial topic more than 35 years later. But the focus has always been on the ship and not on the crew, all of whom perished aboard the submarine.

Stephen Johnson deftly weaves the personal stories of crew members with that of the ship itself. Scorpion was a cranky, failure-prone submarine and her crew had to work doubly hard to keep her in service. The never-ending failures and breakdowns caused at least one crew member to transfer off the ship, though his guilt haunted him for the rest of his life.

Along the way we see that the Navy hadn't learned its lesson from the sinking of the Thresher just five years earlier. Though Scorpion had been back-fitted with several "SUBSAFE" modifications, her emergency-blow system remained inoperable due to design defects for the rest of her brief life. The Navy seemed more interested in holding repair costs down, rather than the safety of a nuclear warship and her crew.

Johnson's style is subtle and understated, and is thus more effective at conveying the human tragedy of the sinking than the semi-hype of Sherry Sontag/Christopher Drew ("Blind Man's Buff") or John Craven ("The Silent War").

Those looking for a definitive explaination of the sinking may be disappointed -- as with many technical failures, there are far more questions than answers.

Intriguing, sobering, ultimately very sad, and very worthy. A tribute to those who died beneath the restless sea. Highly recommended.

In defense of John Craven
By Jeffrey F. Bell
I agree with most other reviewers that this is the most comprehensive unclassified discussion of the SCORPION sinking. But it is not a balanced analysis.

The author treats all theories equally -- except those of Dr. John Craven. He goes out of his way to denigrate Craven and everything he said or wrote about this incident. Inflammatory wording and tortured logic abound in these sections of the book.

It's true that Craven's original idea of a circular torpedo run is untenable. But the modified theory he described in his memoir THE SILENT WAR is the only one that fits the observed condition of the wreckage:

-- The torpedo room is the only part of the wreck without implosion damage, so it must have been already flooded and open to sea pressure when SCORPION sank below crush depth.

-- The torpedo room deck hatches are missing and since they open outward they must have been blown off by high internal pressure.

-- The logical source of overpressure in that compartment is a low-order detonation of an overheated torpedo warhead. Such "cook-off" detonations actually occured on SARGO in 1960.

Given SCORPION's decaying internal systems, the fire might not have been caused by the controversial batteries in the Mk-37 torpedo, but rather leaking hydraulic oil or oxygen. In that case the warhead cook-off might not have been in one of the Mk-37s but rather in an old Mk-14 -- or even one of the two nuclear Mk-45 ASTORs.

I found it curious that these torpedos and their W34 nuclear warheads are hardly mentioned in this book, or any other account of this sinking. After all, this is the only time a US warship has sunk with nukes on board and their status and possible role in the sinking must have been the top priority of the investigation. But a little thought convinced me that these invisible torpedos make Craven's model even more credible.

Modern nuclear bombs use insensitive high explosive triggers but the W34 was designed in the mind-50s before this safety feature was introduced. Several Air Force bombs of this vintage cooked-off in fuel fires. The amount of HE in a mini-nuke is a lot smaller than that in a conventional warhead and would make a smaller bang, less likely to chain-detonate the other torpedos and more consistent with the light damage and weak sound signature observed. In fact by substituting a Mk-45 torpedo for the Mk-37, one overcomes almost all of the objections to an internal torpedo explosion.

My Ship
By William Lee
I have been talking to Steve for over the last 3 years about this book, so it didn't come as a big surprise; but I was very happy about the depth of research and background material that was shown in the book.
I didn't expect any definate answers as to what happened to my shipmates and the boat to go down and there weren't any. What I was glad to see, was documentation on some of the issues that have been speculated about. Hopefully this will stop some of the speculation that has gone on about possible causes of the accident.
I use the word accident on purpose, because I spent two and one half years on the Scorpion from 64-67 and I know there is no way someone on the boat would have done anything to cause what ever sunk it. Having been on two other nuke subs and having been very active the last 5 years with almost 12,000 other subvets in USSVI, I feel now, just I did the day I walked off the Scorpion, that the crew on that boat was really special. They were extremely competent and dedicated to what we were asked to do. Steve talks about them having to fix things when the shipyard and other resources weren't available. This was routine, the whole time I was on it. Thanks in large part to our COB, Wally Bishop, we had no nuc/nonnuc attitudes and were all close friends. It is true that you are closer to some of your shipmates than to those in your family.
Whatever caused the ship to sink, it was not negligence by the crew. There will be another book coming out soon that purports to tell what really happened to it. If you read that book, I would suggest you come back to this book and look at the listed research and Steve's very erudite explanation of it(and that is by no means all the research that Steve did on the book) and then look at what backs up whatever supposed proof that others feel make their viewpoint valid.
I think one of the most important things this books shows is the background of what was going on during the 60s on subs. I can remember twice going out and doing ops because another boat couldn't. I can also remember working on equipment underway because we were not allowed to stay in port to fix things that didn't work.
Cdr. Lewis, as described in Steve's book, was a master skipper. I think anyone in the crew would have done whatever he asked with full confidence that he would get us back safe and alive.
I could tell a lot of stories about Admiral Fountain, but I also learned a lot about him later and came to realize why he was the way he was. He may not have been the most personable officer, but he was very good at his job and helped us be the best we could at what we did.Being the XO, is not going to win you awards for most liked officer anyway. Someone else, while not mentioned in the Book, but responsible for the high standards set by the officers, was LCDR Apple, the engineer when I was on the Scorpion. He set up expectations for the engineering department, that I am sure were carried on until the end.
Wally Bishop was a hero to all of us while we served with him. He of course will be a hero always now. My best friend ever, Bob Chandler, went down with the boat as did most of the people I served with. I think they all deserve the respect they are entitled to and was glad to see that Steve recogized this and treated them with such respect.
I am glad that Steve took the time and effort to detail everything that was known about the Scorpion and to not engage in worthless guessing of what happened.
I can't say this is a happy book, but to anyone interested in what is actually known and what was done to find out as much as possible, this book answers those questions. The book also shows what it was like to be on a nuc fast attack in those days. This book is the best that has been written about that subject. We were engaged in a war that no one understood; we on fast attacks had a specific job to do which we did extremly well and to this day, most don't know what it entailed. That is fine. We didn't expect or want people to understand. I just found out the other day that I don't qualify to belong to the VFW because no one handed out any medals to us. I am glad; that is the way it should be.
Read Steve's book and try and understand that we were dedicated and glad to take on the tasks that we were given. I know my buddies never gave up hope and were doing their job in a professional manner until the last second. We also understood every second that we were out there, that something like what happened to the Scorpion could happen. It certainly wasn't the first or second time that some emergency came up that could have turned out bad. We also thought it was worth it for the information that our country gained from our operations. Hopefully the Navy learned things from this experience that caused other lives to be saved.
Thanks Steve, you did a great job with a very difficult subject to write about.
Bill Lee

Dangerous Liaisons: How to Recognize and Escape from Psychopathic Seduction, by Claudia Moscovici

What do Scott Peterson, Neil Entwistle and timeless literary seducers epitomized by Don Juan and Casanova have in common? They are charismatic, glib and seductive men who also embody the most dangerous human qualities: a breathtaking callousness, shallowness of emotion and the incapacity to love. In other words, these men are psychopaths. Unfortunately, most psychopaths don’t advertise themselves as heartless social predators. They come across as charming, intelligent, romantic and kind. Through their believable “mask of sanity,” they lure many of us into their dangerous nets. Dangerous Liaisons explains clearly what psychopaths are, why they act the way they do, how they attract us and whom they tend to target. Above all, this book helps victims find the strength to end their toxic relationships with psychopaths and move on, stronger and wiser, with the rest of their lives.

Review
With Dangerous Liaisons, Moscovici makes an invaluable, genuinely distinguished contribution to the literature on psychopathy.

Steve Becker, MSW, LCSW LoveFraud.com feature columnist, Expert/ Consultant on Narcissism and Psychopathy

As a clinical specialist in psychopathy, I find that nobody addresses this personality disorder more trenchantly, and with more penetrating insight, than Claudia Moscovici. . . . Dangerous Liaisons examines the dynamics of this puzzling, chilling personality and applies its insights to real-life, contemporary examples of psychopaths in the news. Moscovici has written a book from which anyone (curious lay person or seasoned clinician) interested in how psychopaths insinuate themselves into our lives, leaving behind a trail of devastation, will benefit immensely. (Steve Becker, MSW, LCSW, LoveFraud.com feature columnist, expert on psychopathy and narcissism)

The Institute has long said that what is shocking is not that pathology exists, but that there is so little public and survivor education about the most dangerous relationships on the planet. Claudia Moscovici’s Dangerous Liaisons is a needed perspective about the invisible tyranny and death grip of pathological love relationships and what they do to those who love psychopaths. We can’t avoid what we can’t spot, and we can’t heal from what we don’t identify. This book helps to highlight the unique strength and lure of pathology, the devastating outcomes to the survivor, and an understanding of what pathology is and does. (Sandra L. Brown, M.A., psychopathologist, CEO of The Institute for Relational Harm Reduction & Public Pathology Education, author of Women Who Love Psychopaths (2nd Ed.), How to Spot a Dangerous Man, and Counseling Victims of Violence)

From the Back Cover
Not merely another 'I-Fell-In-Love-With-A-Psychopath' memoir, Dangerous Liaisons dives into recent information by the leading experts about the most disordered and dangerous person alive.

Another excellent book about psychopaths
By set free
Claudia's book about psychopaths, "Dangerous Liaisons" is yet another exquisite and most helpful read in understanding the experiences with an emotional predator.

What I found most intriguing about this book, was her insertions of the many examples of others work and spelling it out for the reader in discerning the patterns and behaviors of psychopaths with her own wonderful "voice" as an author.

For example: She goes into detail and examines the relationship of Pablo Picasso and one of his main women with whom they had two children. She takes this woman's story, published long ago, and dissects it in a way in which we understand psychopathic seduction and the subsequent, universal "bait and switch" and eventual discard, that define the psychopath and his motives and actions. Claudia takes her own insights and perspectives of having been with a psychopath herself, and brilliantly lays out the groundwork of understanding to help others who may be searching for answers about their experiences.

Her work here is excellent in weaving together the painful picture of how a pathological bond develops, what the psychopath is, what he says and what he does and the traits and behaviors that are so commonly associated with pathology.

This book, coupled with her fiction novel, "The Seducer" about a pathological relationship, brings us full circle from Claudia's perspective about what makes the exploiter tick and how victims/survivors respond to the bond and how to heal from such a trauma.

Well worth buying
By Kre Fog
"Dangerous liaisons" is a book about psychopaths and how they seduce women. It is valuable for anyone interested in this subject and for anyone interested in psychopaths in general.
I like for instance that Moscovici spells out well the process of psychopathic seduction: 1)Idealize, 2) devalue, and 3) discard.
There is a chapter on Picasso's treatment of his many women. Here, Moscovici postulates that Picasso was a psychopath. I have read a lot about Picasso's life, and nowhere else have I seen this statement about him. But I tend to agree with her: She is right that he had so many psychopathic features that it is justified to call him a psychopath (even though he was not violent).
The chapter `understanding the science behind the disorder' does not tell much. More may be read elsewhere.
However, in case you want to buy just one single book about how male psychopaths seduce women, I would recommend: Sandra L. Brown (2009): "Women who love psychopaths". Moscovici has one chapter dealing with this book, but I would rather recommend that you read Brown's book yourself. It is probably the best written on the subject.

A valuable and insightful book that contributes to the need for raising public awareness of these invisable emotional disorders
By Michael Pacitti
Claudia Moscovici has made a valuable literacy contribution to the understanding of a unique personality disorder construct that is characterised by emotional poverty, the inability to love and empathise, and a lacking in the capacity to emotionally bond with others. Having experienced a pathological relationship first hand, and having thoroughly researched into the psychopathic personality construct; Claudia writes from a highly informed perspective. Anybody who believes or suspects they may have encountered someone with narcissistic, borderline, or psychopathic traits will benefit from reading this book.

Claudia's book achieves a number of things; first, drawing on her own experience she provides comfort to those who have experienced a pathological relationship. Second, research into sub-clinical and sub-criminal psychopaths has drawn a blank; the most fruitful paths of research into the socialised high functioning psychopath can only be achieved through listening to people who have lived through a pathological relationship. And third, the need for raising awareness needs to be informative, comprehensive, and accessible to the general public. Dangerous Liasons covers all these bases.
